One of the First and most Basic Lessons for your child to learn is: to respect you as parents. This relationship with parents forms the basis of his/her future relationships with teachers, employers, law enforcement officers and others. It says that "I am your parent and expect you to obey me and to what I say." This does not mean an unloving, authoritarian approach nor does it mean anarchy and an absence of firm leadership. It involves love with firm guidance and communication. Teaching respect is also a way of showing your love, because it says to your child "Because I love you, I must teach you what is the right way to act". You must be worthy of this respect and thus through mutual respect, children will learn to accept your values. Children who can disrespect and show contempt for parents will probably reject the parent's values and philosophy also.
